LOCAL TOURSThere’s more to do in Hokkaido than just skiing! While you’re here, why not take a day or two and see some of the local Japanese culture? We have several 1 day sightseeing tours available to our guests. Please book all tours in advance of your stay. OtaruOtaru is famous for its canals and glass factories. On this day trip, you’ll get to see the best of what Otaru has to offer. View the famous romantic and scenic canal, tour the Music Box museum, visit a glass factory, and tour the Nikka Whiskey factory as well as a Sake brewery. Approximately a 7 hour trip (time will vary depending on road conditions).
NoboribetsuNoboribetsu lays claim to the greatest volume of onsen water in Japan. Soaking in the hot spring water isn’t the only activity available here, however. Jigokudani- often called “Hell Valley” is a valley filled with still active volcanic vents; the boiling water running through it gives off a thick, sulfurous smell and is quite a sight at any time of the year. Noboribetsu is also home to the Date-Jidaimura theme park, recreating an Edo-period villiage complete with actors playing the parts of various villagers (Don’t miss the Ninja show!). On the scenic route to and from Noboribetsu, you’ll also be able to view Lake Toya, often a destination in and of itself. About an 8 hour trip (time will vary depending on road conditions).
Lake ToyaOur Lake Toya tour is for anyone with an interest in volcanoes! You’ll go to the Lake Toya visitor center and volcano museum. Afterward, you’ll be able to visit Mt. Usu, which last erupted in 2000, causing widespread evacuations. You can also ride a cable car up Mt. Show Shin-zan, which first appeared in a farmer’s field in 1943 and now stands over 400m (and still growing), where you can view the active volcanic crater. If you feel the need to cool off after all that, this day trip includes a stop at Lake Hill Farm, well known for its ice cream. About a 5 hour trip (time will vary depending on road conditions).
Sapporo CitySapporo, the largest city in Hokkaido, was the location of the 1972 Winter Olympics. The tour will take you to the Mt. Okura ski jump hill and the Sapporo Winter Sports Museum. You’ll also see several historical buildings such as the famous Tokeidai clock tower and the Old Hokkaido Government Building. No trip to Sapporo is complete without sampling the shopping available or a visit to the Sapporo Beer Museum. About an 8 hour trip (time will vary depending on road conditions).
